Excellent performance of NRF-crossbreds
NRF-crosses are performing above expectation in their second lactation at a dairy farm in Holland.
Van Maanen is a Dutch farmer milking 70 cows. He was curios about crossbreeding and tried it out on a very small scale in his herd after buying semen from Xsires in Holland.
Van Maanen got two heifers in milk out of the Norwegian Red (NRF) sire Lien and he was very pleased with the results in the first lactation and very positively surprised with their performance in the second lactation.
- They both calved within one year for the second time and their progression in milk yield is incredible. They are producing far above herd average and they both needed only one straw of semen to get back in-calf again, Van Maanen says. He is now using only Norwegian Red (NRF) on his Holstein-cows.
