Dairy Crossbreeding with Norwegian Red will maximize profits in the US

Crossbreeding will improve dairy farm profitability. Crossbreeding with Norwegian Red in the US will increase profits by $125 per cow per year.

Most US dairy producers have utilized purebred dairy cows for commercial dairy production, but crossbreeding in US dairy herds is continuing to increase. A well designed crossbreeding program will produce cows that are more profitable and easier to manage than purebreds in most herd circumstances.

Crossbreeding with Norwegian Red (NRF)

The Norwegian Red breed sires strong dairy animals that produce well, improve components and dramatically improve health and fertility. The breed has been proven in several countries to be an excellent alternative to traditional Holstein and an exceptional cross for those looking to enhance the animals overall health and reproductive performance. Also foot problems and calving complications are minimizec and still birth levels are very low.

Norwegian Red - a cow that works !

NRF is a high yielding dairy breed developed in Norway. The breeders have strongly emphasized health and fertility traits for over thirty years. Positive genetic trend for health and fertility, as well as production, has been possible due to the very comprehensive data collection system in Norway together with large daughter groups (minimum 200) in each bull's first proof. Functionality has been a focus for Norwegian Red breeders for 75 years. The breed fits well into all crossbreeding programs and will give dairy farmers a cow that works !

Crossbreeding Management System™

ABS Global is the exclusive distributor of Norwegian Red genetics in the USA. To meet the increased interest in crossbreeding from commercial milk producers in the US, ABS Global has developed a program for crossbreeding called Crossbreeding Management System™ (CMS). With the recommendation of rotational crossbreeding of Holstein, Jersey and Norwegian Red, ABS will be distributing Norwegian Red semen under this program. "Through CMS, ABS offers an ideal mating for F1 crossbred Jersey x Holstein females," states Todd Kronberg, ABS Director of North American Dairy Product Development and Strategic Marketing.
