Norwegian Red for Crossbreeding at World Ag Expo
The Geno Global team had busy days at World Ag Expo 2012. Lots of dairy farmers stopped by to learn more about dairy crossbreeding and increasing profits with Norwegian Red (NRF).
Crossbreeding with Norwegian Red (NRF) in the US will increase profits by $125 per cow per year.
Most US dairy producers have utilized purebred dairy cows for commercial dairy production, but crossbreeding in US dairy herds is continuing to increase. A well designed crossbreeding program will produce cows that are more profitable and easier to manage than purebreds in most herd circumstances.
Norwegian Red - a cow that works!
NRF is a high yielding dairy breed developed in Norway. The breeders have strongly emphasized health and fertility traits for over thirty years. Positive genetic trend for health and fertility, as well as production, has been possible due to the very comprehensive data collection system in Norway together with large daughter groups (approximately 250) in each bull's first proof. Functionality has been a focus for Norwegian Red breeders for 75 years. The breed fits well into all crossbreeding programs and will give dairy farmers a cow that works!
Norwegian Red crossbreds excel in health and fertility traits when compared to Holsteins. The Crossbreeding Calculator On-line will show you how the crossbred superiority in these traits translates into profit.
Crossbreeding Management System™
ABS Global is the exclusive distributor of Norwegian Red genetics in the USA. To meet the increased interest in crossbreeding from commercial milk producers in the US, ABS Global has developed a program for crossbreeding called Crossbreeding Management System™ (CMS). CMS recommends a rotational crossbreeding program with Holstein, Jersey and Norwegian Red.
