These trials have mainly been initiated by universities and research institutions in the respective countries due to the increased concerns with current female fertility, calving ability and overall health of the Holstein breed. Many of the results have been published in recognized international journals.
The reason for choosing Norwegian Red as a breed for these trials is that Geno has included health and fertility in their breeding program for over thirty years. Also every proven Norwegian Red bull in the breeding program has a very large daughter group (minimum 200 per bull), resulting in highly stable and accurate proofs.
